Job alerts

Bring visitors back when a job they want appears

Most visitors leave a job board without applying. A job alert lets them tell your board what they are looking for, and your board emails them when it has it. JobClay does the matching, the sending and the unsubscribing.

What’s included

  • Daily or weekly

Each subscriber picks how often to hear from you. Weekly is the default, daily is one click away.

  • Alerts that follow a search

An alert follows skills, industries and places, and can ask for a range of years of experience.

  • Three ways to sign up

A bar, a box under each job or a popup. Turn each on or off, or let visitors use the full form.

  • Confirmed, and easy to leave

An alert starts once its owner confirms the address, and every email carries an unsubscribe link.

  • An RSS feed

Your 50 newest jobs as RSS 2.0 at /feed.xml, for any tool that reads feeds.

  • Your subscribers

See how many alerts are on, how many were confirmed each week, and download the list as a CSV file.

How it works

  1. 1

    Choose where people sign up

Switch on the bar, the box or the popup. Visitors can also use the full sign-up form.

  2. 2

    Visitors subscribe and confirm

They say what to follow and how often, then confirm from a link in an email.

  3. 3

    New jobs reach their inbox

When new jobs match, they get one email with the jobs, each with a View job button.

How do job alerts work on a job board?

A visitor gives their email address and chooses what to follow: skills, industries, places and, if they like, a range of years of experience. They confirm the address from a link in an email. After that JobClay emails them when new jobs match, with a View job button for each one and an Unsubscribe link at the bottom.

Can subscribers choose daily or weekly alerts?

Yes. The sign-up form offers weekly or daily, and weekly is selected to begin with. A daily alert is sent once a day when new jobs match. A weekly alert is sent on Monday, in your board’s time zone, when new jobs have matched during the week.

How many jobs does an alert email hold?

A daily email holds up to 10 jobs and a weekly one up to 20. Featured jobs come first, then the newest. A job that was already sent in an alert is left out of that alert’s later emails, and an alert with no new match sends nothing.

Do subscribers have to confirm their email address?

Yes. A new alert sends no jobs until its owner has clicked the link in a confirmation email. Every alert email then carries an unsubscribe link, and a List-Unsubscribe header, so mail apps can show their own Unsubscribe button. The console reminds you that the people on the list agreed to job alerts, and that emailing them anything else needs their consent first.

Where do visitors sign up for alerts?

JobClay has three styles. The bar is a slim strip at the bottom of job pages, the jobs list and landing pages, and it is on by default. The box is a sign-up section under each job and under the results. The popup appears once after a visitor has read half a page, and never on phones. You switch each one on or off in the console, and there is a full sign-up form page as well.

Can I change the look and wording of the alert email?

Yes. The email carries your board’s name or logo and your colour. In the console’s Emails page you open the job alert email, change its wording, and see a preview with sample jobs before you save.

Does my job board get an RSS feed?

Yes. Every board has a feed at /feed.xml in RSS 2.0 with its 50 newest live jobs. It can be narrowed to one skill or place with the same filters a landing page uses, and any tool that reads RSS can use it.

Can I see who has subscribed?

Yes. The console’s Job alerts page shows how many alerts are on and how many were confirmed in each of the last 12 weeks. You can download the subscribers as a CSV file with each email, name, what the alert follows, daily or weekly, and the date it was confirmed.
