Set up your first board
This guide takes a new board from sign-up to ready for employers. Each step names the console page that does it, and points to the guide with more detail where there is one.
Sign up and name your board
To create your board:
- Open the sign-up page.
- Fill in Your name, Email, Board name and Board address. The address becomes your board's own JobClay address, such as
yourname.jobclay.app: 3 to 63 lower-case letters, digits and inner hyphens. - Press Create my board. We send a link to your inbox to confirm the address.
- Open the link. On Choose your password, check the board's name and address, choose a password, and press Confirm and create my board.
With Sign up with Google there is no email to confirm: you go straight to Create your board, fill in Your name, Board name and Board address, and press Create my board.
Your board is live on the Free plan straight away, and the console opens on its Overview. If you chose a paid plan on the pricing page first, it opens on Billing with that plan picked. Open your board on the Overview shows the board as visitors see it.
Work through the setup checklist
The Overview's Set up your board card lists the setup steps in order. Each links to the page that does it and shows Done or To do.
| Step | Page | Done when |
|---|---|---|
| Add your logo and colours | Branding | a logo is uploaded |
| Set your country, currency and time zone | Region | a country is chosen |
| Review your about, privacy and terms pages | Pages | every starter page has been saved |
| Add your legal details so employers can buy | Payments | employers can post: free posting is on, or you have a package, a way to pay and your legal details |
| Add a job source to fill your board | Job sources | the board has a job source |
| Invite your team | Team | someone else is a member, or an invitation is waiting |
| Turn on two-factor sign-in | Your account | two-factor sign-in is on for you |
When your plan has no room for another admin, the Invite your team step says how many admins it includes.
Brand the board and set its region
On Branding, upload a Logo (PNG, JPEG or WebP, up to 1 MB) and a Favicon (PNG or ICO), each with its own Upload button. Then set the Board name, Tagline, Colour, Contact email and Sender name on emails, and press Save.
On Region, choose the Country, Currency, Locale and Time zone, and press Save. Set the currency before you add a package: it locks once you have one. The country also lets job sources keep only jobs in that country.
Review your pages
A new board starts with three pages: About, Privacy policy and Terms of use. They hold starter text that names your board, and you are responsible for what they say. On Pages, each one still marked "Starter text: review it" needs your review: open it, change what you need, and press Save.
Add jobs
Visitors come for jobs, and employers pay for visitors, so fill the board before you invite employers. There are three ways:
- From the library. On Job sources, press Add from library, find a company by country, field or name, and press Add. Its first run starts shortly.
- From a source you add. On Job sources, press an Add a source button: for an XML feed, a careers page, or a company's board on Greenhouse, Lever, Ashby, Workable or SmartRecruiters.
- By hand. On Jobs, press Post a job, choose the employer it is for, fill in the job and press Save and publish. For a company with no employer account, open it under Companies and press Post a job for this company.
Your plan sets how many job sources the board can have, and a company from the library counts as one. Job sources covers each kind of source, schedules, rules and approval.
Choose how employers post
On Packages, Free posting has three choices:
- Off: every job needs a post credit, which employers buy in a package.
- Unlimited: employers post free whenever they like. A new board starts here.
- Monthly allowance: each company gets a number of free posts each month.
A free job stays live for the days set under Jobs stay live for on the Jobs page, and counts toward your plan's live jobs. To sell job posts and featured upgrades, add a package and turn on a way to pay: Get paid walks through packages, Stripe, bank transfers and invoices.
On Approvals, What needs approval has two switches, both off on a new board. With New employers need approval on, new employer accounts can prepare jobs but cannot publish until you approve them. With New jobs need approval on, an employer's first publication of each job waits for you. Jobs you post never wait.
Open the board to employers
Employers sign up and post in the employer area, at /employer/ on your board's address, and your packages show at /employer/packages/. The board's header links to the employer area for visitors who are not signed in. Share those links with the employers you want on the board.
Invite your team and protect your account
On Team, the owner enters an address under Invite an admin by email and presses Send invitation. Your plan sets how many admins a board can have, counting invitations still waiting.
On Your account, press Turn on two-factor sign-in to ask for a code from an authenticator app each time you sign in, with a password or with Google.
Next steps
- Move the board to a domain of your own: Use your own domain.
- Tell search engines about new jobs within minutes: Google indexing.
