JBoard alternatives: job board software compared

JobClay wrote this page, and JobClay is one of the four platforms it lists. It is for anyone running a board on JBoard and thinking about a move: what JBoard’s pricing page and public feedback board show, the questions that decide it, the other platforms with each one’s own published prices, the cases for staying, and how a move goes.

Updated . Each reason links the page it comes from, and each platform’s row says when its pricing page was read.

Why boards look beyond JBoard

  • There is no free plan. The full 14-day trial asks for a card, because a board can go live during it, so a new board pays from its first month whether or not it has sold a post.

  • Several tools wait on the upper plans: XML feed importers and rapid Google Jobs indexing start with Advanced, and the API, single sign-on and the applicant tracker with messaging come with Scale.

  • The most-voted idea on JBoard’s public feedback board is charging job seekers for access, at 86 votes; JBoard marks it as in progress.

  • Further down the list are paying by invoice as well as by card through Stripe, at 54 votes, and importing jobs, employers and profiles in bulk from CSV files, at 41; neither shows a status yet.

  • Screening questions for applicants (37 votes) and a board in two or more languages (34 votes) are on the same list too.

What to weigh

  1. What you pay before the board earns. A trial ends after a set number of days; a free plan keeps a live board running until it sells its first posts.

  2. Where JBoard’s extras sit elsewhere. If you use resume parsing, messaging or the API, look up the plan each platform puts them on, not just its entry price.

  3. How employers pay you. Cards, bank transfers and invoices differ from one platform to the next; the table’s column gives what each pricing page says, with the day it was checked.

  4. What crosses over. Check that the new platform imports jobs and employers from CSV files, and that your old job addresses can keep working.

The options

The options run from the most to the fewest of the three extras JBoard keeps for its upper plans: resume parsing, candidate messaging and an API. JobClay has none of the three, so it comes last; it is listed for boards that leave over cost or payments.

Prices are in US dollars, as each pricing page prints them; JobClay’s row is read from its plans when the page is shown. An empty cell means the page does not say.

Stay with JBoard if

  • Resume parsing, the applicant tracker with messaging or the API carry your board, and you already pay for the plan that has them.
  • What you are missing is something JBoard marks as in progress on its feedback board, such as charging job seekers, and you can wait for it.
  • Your job seeker profiles and alert subscribers are the heart of the board. JBoard exports them, but JobClay’s import leaves them out, so they would have to sign up again.
  • The monthly fee is small next to what employers pay you.

Moving a board from JBoard

JBoard’s help centre says jobs, employers, email subscribers, profiles and applications can each be exported as a CSV file, from the Actions button of their section. On JobClay, import the employers file first and the jobs file second, on the Import page of the console, which every plan has; nothing is written until you have checked the preview. Put each job’s JBoard address in an old_url column and the import adds a redirect from that path to the job’s new page. Connect your domain to JobClay after the import, so the redirects answer on the addresses people and search engines already have.

Is there a free alternative to JBoard?

JobClay has a free plan: a live board on a jobclay.app address, with no card needed, inside the plan’s limits. Your own domain needs a paid plan. The other platforms on this page offer trials; the table shows how long each lasts and, where its page says, whether it asks for a card.

Which alternative keeps resume parsing, messaging and an API?

Of the platforms here, Cavuno lists all three on every plan. Job Boardly has a management API from Pro and in-product messaging on Ultra; Kardow has an API from Pro. JobClay has none of them. Its webhooks, on every plan, send events such as a published job or a new application to a Zapier or Make step, which covers some of what boards use an API for.

Can employers pay by bank transfer instead of Stripe?

On JobClay, yes. A board can take card payments into its own Stripe account, bank transfers, or both. With a transfer, the employer sees the payment instructions you write, you mark the order paid when the money arrives, and every paid order gets an invoice.

What happens to my job pages in Google?

Each job and company row of the import can name its old address. The board then answers that address with a permanent redirect to the new page, which visitors and Google’s crawler both follow. Jobs that have already closed are not imported, so they get no redirect.
