WordPress job board plugin alternatives: job board software

JobClay wrote this page, and JobClay is one of the five hosted platforms it lists. It is for people who run a job board inside WordPress with a plugin and wonder whether a hosted board would be less work. The reasons below are WP Job Manager’s, a free plugin from Automattic, taken from its own pages; other plugins differ. After them come what to weigh, the options, what stays on WordPress if you move, and how old job links keep working.

Updated . Each reason links the page it comes from, and each platform’s row says when its pricing page was read.

Why sites move jobs off WordPress

  • WP Job Manager runs inside your own WordPress site and asks for WordPress 6.4 and PHP 7.4 or newer, so keeping that site, its server and its PHP version current is up to you.

  • Five versions, 2.4.5 to 2.4.9, came out between July 1 and October 28, 2026, several of them tightening who may see or change listings. Each one is an update to apply and check on a live site.

  • Applications through a form, email job alerts and paid listings are each a separate add-on, sold with a yearly price.

  • Its own description says it fits any theme once you add some CSS, and its answers to common questions send changes to the job form’s fields to code in the theme’s functions.php file or to another plugin.

  • Reviews on its plugin page from February 2025 and February 2026 describe custom development, or a lot of work on code and styling, before the board looked right.

What to weigh

  1. Who keeps it running. On WordPress the plugin, its add-ons, the theme and the server are yours to update; a hosted platform updates itself.

  2. The yearly total. Add hosting and each add-on a paid board needs, and set that against one subscription that includes them.

  3. Where the jobs appear. Inside your WordPress pages, or on a subdomain such as jobs.yoursite.com that your menu links to.

  4. Old job links. Each should lead to the job’s new page rather than to a missing one.

The options

First comes the one platform here that can still show jobs inside your WordPress pages. The rest run from the lowest cost of keeping a live board before it earns to the highest, by each pricing page; JobClay is second because its Free plan costs nothing.

Keep the plugin if

  • Jobs are a small corner of a WordPress site that someone already updates every week.
  • The jobs must sit inside your own pages and theme, on your main domain.
  • You post the jobs yourself and charge nobody, so the free core plugin is all you need.
  • You want the code on your own server, and a developer makes your changes.

Stays on WordPress

  • Your main site on yoursite.com: its pages, theme, blog and the plugins they use
  • Your WordPress hosting, and its upkeep, as now
  • A link to the job board in your menu

Moves to the jobs subdomain

  • Job listings and employer accounts, on jobs.yoursite.com
  • Applications, job alerts and payments for job posts
  • Job data for Google and the jobs sitemap

Moving the jobs and keeping old links

WordPress’s own export tool saves an XML file and JobClay imports CSV, so put your open jobs into the jobs template JobClay’s Import page offers, one row per job; employers who post on your site go in the employers file. In each job’s row, the old_url column takes its WordPress address, and the import turns that path into a redirect to the job’s new page on your board. Then, on WordPress or at your host, add a rule that sends those old job addresses to the same path on jobs.yoursite.com. A visitor with an old link reaches the jobs subdomain, and JobClay forwards them to the job.

Can I keep WordPress and run the jobs on JobClay?

Yes. WordPress keeps your main domain and JobClay runs the board on a subdomain such as jobs.yoursite.com, which you link from your WordPress menu. A subdomain of your own needs a paid JobClay plan; on the Free plan the board lives at a jobclay.app address.

Is there a JobClay plugin or widget for WordPress?

No. JobClay has no WordPress plugin and no widget that puts jobs inside your pages. If that matters, Cavuno lists an embeddable jobs widget on its paid plans.

What happens to job pages Google has already indexed?

Open jobs can lead to their new pages: the import’s old_url column adds a redirect for each old path on the board, and the rule on WordPress sends those paths to the jobs subdomain, so search engines follow each old address to the job’s new page. Jobs that have closed are not imported.

Is a hosted board dearer than a free plugin?

Not always. The plugin is free, but a board that takes applications, sends job alerts and sells posts needs add-ons priced by the year, as well as hosting. JobClay’s Free plan includes all three, and its paid plans, with your own domain, are on the pricing page.
