Choose a theme
A theme decides how your board looks to job seekers: the layout of the header, the home page, the job lists, job and company pages and the blog. Your logo, colour, wording, menu and domain stay yours in every theme. Every plan, the Free plan included, can use every theme.
There are two themes today:
- Classic is made for general and regional boards with many jobs.
- Bulletin is made for niche and community boards run by a newsletter, a community or a solo founder.
Employers use the same employer area whichever theme your board has, and the emails your board sends do not change with the theme.
See and switch themes
In the console, open Theme. Each theme shows a picture of its home page, a Live label on the one your board uses now, and three buttons:
- Customise opens the theme's settings, described below.
- Preview opens your board in that theme in a new tab, without changing the board.
- Use this theme makes it the theme of your board. It appears on a theme that is not live.
A switch reaches every visitor within a couple of minutes.
Customise a theme
Press Customise under a theme. The form has two parts.
- Settings that belong to the theme. Classic has none of its own. Bulletin has four: Headings (Clarendon or Grotesque), Contents column beside the masthead, Group the latest jobs by week, and Show "Your job here" beside the featured jobs.
- Sections of the home page. Tick the ones to show and use the arrows to put them in order. Each theme offers its own sections, so the list differs between Classic and Bulletin. Add a banner, with text and an optional image and link, on the Home page screen.
Press the save button under the form, which carries the theme's name, such as Save Bulletin. A theme that is not live shows a note, and saving its settings changes nothing on your board until you use it.
Each theme keeps its own settings. If you switch to Bulletin, customise it and switch back to Classic, Classic is as you left it, and Bulletin is still as you set it.
Preview your board in a theme
Press Preview on any theme, live or not. Your board opens in a new tab in that theme, with the theme's saved settings, and a banner at the top says it is a preview and has a Leave preview button.
- Only the browser that opened the preview sees the theme. Everyone else, and search engines, see your live theme.
- A preview link works once and for two hours. If you send it to someone, it shows them nothing: open a new preview from the console instead. A link you open a second time says it has expired.
- Pages in a preview are not indexed or stored.
- Press Leave preview to return to the page you were on in your live theme.
To preview unsaved changes, save the theme's settings first: a preview shows saved settings.
Check your colour in a theme
Your board's colour is used by both themes. Text on a coloured button turns black or white by itself, whichever is easier to read. A very light colour, such as yellow, works too, but preview your board in each theme before you switch to see your pages with your colour.
